White Russian Kale
Growing White Russian Kale
‘White Russian’ is an open-pollinated kale prized for its tender, frilly foliage, prominent pale veins, and mild, sweet flavor. Beautiful serrated leaves tolerate cold exceptionally well, allowing harvests to continue into early winter while adding ornamental value to edible gardens.
Start ‘White Russian’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ½ inch deep and space plants 12 to 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade. Its manageable growth habit makes this variety especially well suited to smaller gardens.
Ready to harvest in about 50 days, pick younger leaves for the most tender texture or allow them to mature for cooking.
Mild, tender, and versatile, ‘White Russian’ is excellent for fresh eating, salads, sautéing, soups, and ornamental edible plantings.
