Komatsuna (Japanese Mustard Spinach)
Growing Komatsuna (Japanese Mustard Spinach)
‘Komatsuna’ is an open-pollinated leafy green prized for its mild mustard flavor, tender texture, and impressive adaptability. Nearly as sweet as spinach but easier to grow, plants provide edible leaves, stems, and flower heads.
Sow ‘Komatsuna’ directly in the garden about ¼ inch deep and space plants about 12 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This hardy, heat-tolerant variety performs especially well across a broad range of conditions.
Ready to harvest in about 35 days, pick leaves at the size you prefer, choosing younger growth for the most tender texture.
Mild, tender, and versatile, ‘Komatsuna’ is especially well suited to braising, fresh eating, sautéing, and everyday cooking.
