Growing Tokyo Cross Hybrid Turnip
‘Tokyo Cross’ is an award-winning hybrid turnip and 1969 All-America Selections Winner prized for exceptional earliness and reliability. Smooth white roots develop from oval to globe shaped and can reach up to 6 inches across, with firm, fine-grained flesh and a mild, sweet flavor.
Sow ‘Tokyo Cross’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep, space plants 3 to 6 inches apart, and grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety is well suited to containers and is noted for disease resistance.
Ready to harvest in about 37 days, pull roots once they reach the desired size while they remain crisp and tender.
Mild, sweet, and crisp, ‘Tokyo Cross’ is excellent for salads, roasting, sautéing, pickling, and everyday cooking.
