Russian Tarragon
Growing Russian Tarragon
‘Russian’ is an open-pollinated tarragon prized for its pale green foliage and distinctive peppery, anise-like flavor with subtle hints of vanilla. Milder than French tarragon, this seed-grown type combines culinary usefulness with attractive ornamental growth.
Start ‘Russian’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ½ inch deep and space plants 18 to 24 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade. This variety offers good heat tolerance.
Ready to begin harvesting in about 85 days, cut leaves or stems as needed once plants are well established.
Mild, aromatic, and distinctive, ‘Russian’ is excellent for sauces, poultry, fish, vegetables, herb blends, and ornamental herb gardens.
