Sunsugar Watermelon
Growing Sunsugar Watermelon
‘Sunsugar’ is an open-pollinated watermelon prized for its richly sweet flavor and productive vines. Blocky fruits contain medium-sized seeds, while vigorous foliage helps shade developing melons from sunburn.
Start ‘Sunsugar’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ½ to 1 inch deep, space plants about 48 inches apart, and grow in full sun. For best sowing, orient each seed with the pointed end facing down. This heat-tolerant variety thrives through warm summer conditions.
Ready to harvest in about 85 days, pick fruits once they are fully mature and have developed their best sweetness and texture.
Juicy, richly sweet, and refreshing, ‘Sunsugar’ is excellent for fresh eating.
