Stevia
Growing Stevia
Stevia is a distinctive herb prized for its intensely sweet foliage and usefulness as a homegrown natural sweetener. Attractive leafy plants perform beautifully in containers while providing leaves that can be used fresh, dried, powdered, or infused.
Start Stevia indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ⅛ inch deep and space plants 12 to 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety is especially well suited to containers.
Ready to begin harvesting in about 100 days, cut leaves as needed once plants are well established. Extra foliage can be dried and stored for later use.
Exceptionally sweet and versatile, Stevia is useful for sweetening teas, beverages, desserts, and other recipes without relying on traditional sugar.
