Growing Information

Growing Shock Wave® Purple Tie Dye Spreading Petunia

‘Shock Wave® Purple Tie Dye’ is a hybrid spreading petunia prized for its dramatic bicolor blooms, early flowering, and excellent weather recovery. Purple-blue and white flowers blanket mounded plants, creating a lively patterned display unlike traditional solid-colored petunias.

Surface sow ‘Shock Wave® Purple Tie Dye’ seeds and space plants 12 to 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun. Germination typically takes 7 to 14 days. This heat-tolerant variety rebounds especially well after overhead watering and rainfall.

Ready to bloom in about 84 days, enjoy the flowers as they open and reach their best display stage. Plants flower from spring through summer, providing a dense covering of distinctive bicolor blooms.

Bold, patterned, and resilient, ‘Shock Wave® Purple Tie Dye’ is an excellent choice for containers, ornamental beds, hanging baskets, patio pots, and landscape plantings.

A beautiful flowering plant

Like other reviewers, I got one sprout out of five seeds, but the one plant I got was my favorite flower I grew last summer. It was a very hearty plant and bloomed profusely all summer. However it died off when fall came. I brought the plant inside to try to nurse it back to health, but no luck. Still, I liked the flowers so much that I'm ordering another five seeds.

Impressive coloring

I started these on a heat mat under grow lights in mid to late January. I had 100% germination. I started getting blooms in mid-April. I have shown pictures to my gardening friends who have been impressed with the striking blossom coloring. Can’t wait to move outside when the Colorado weather permits!
