Royal Crown Hybrid Turnip
Growing Royal Crown Hybrid Turnip
‘Royal Crown’ is a hybrid turnip prized for its smooth, uniform roots and plentiful leafy tops. Slightly flattened roots develop bright purple shoulders and creamy white bottoms, while the flesh is sweet and mild and becomes even sweeter after frost.
Sow ‘Royal Crown’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep, space plants 4 to 6 inches apart, and grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers.
Ready to harvest in about 50 days, pull roots once they reach the desired size while they remain tender. The generous tops can also be harvested for greens.
Sweet, mild, and versatile, ‘Royal Crown’ is excellent for everyday cooking, greens, and storage.
