Growing Information

Growing Red Express Cabbage

‘Red Express’ is an open-pollinated cabbage variety. Our only red cabbage is also our earliest, with reddish-purple, uniform, dense heads with a crisp texture and wonderful flavor. Compact plants can be planted close together and are ideal for Northern climates.

Start ‘Red Express’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 18 - 24 inches apart, and grow in full sun / partial shade. This variety is well suited to smaller gardens.

Around 60 days to maturity, harvest ‘Red Express’ once the heads feel firm and have reached the desired size.

‘Red Express’ is especially well suited for fresh eating, everyday cooking, and storage.
