Growing Information

Growing Northern Xtra-Sweet (yellow sh2) Hybrid Sweet Corn

‘Northern Xtra-Sweet’ is an extra-early hybrid sweet corn developed for reliable performance in cool weather and shorter growing seasons. Especially well suited to Northern climates, this variety gives gardeners a head start on summer harvests while still delivering the sweet, tender kernels expected from a quality sweet corn. Seed is treated with Vibrance Cinco (VC).

Sow ‘Northern Xtra-Sweet’ directly in the garden about 1 inch deep. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart and grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety is a strong choice for early-season planting.

Ready to harvest in about 63 days, begin checking the ears as they approach maturity and pick them at peak eating quality when the kernels are plump, tender, and juicy.

Sweet, early, and dependable, ‘Northern Xtra-Sweet’ is excellent for fresh eating and canning.

Wonderful corn for short season area

I purchased this seed for the first time this year. I didn't have high expectations, we have a very short growing season in the mountains if southeast Wyoming. This corn produced very well, even though we had a late start due to a cool wet spring. The flavor is very sweet, and holds well in the freezer. I'll purchase more when it comes back in stock for 2024.
