Mr. Big Shelling Pea
Growing Mr. Big Shelling Pea
‘Mr. Big’ is an award-winning open-pollinated shell pea prized for its enormous pods, sweet succulent peas, and excellent garden performance. Robust vines often produce two oversized pods per node, making the crop easy to spot, harvest, and shell.
Sow ‘Mr. Big’ directly in the garden about 1 inch deep and space plants 12 to 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade and provide support for the vines. This cold-tolerant variety is also noted for superb disease resistance.
Ready to harvest in about 60 days, pick the large pods once they are plump and well filled while the peas remain tender and sweet.
Large, sweet, and productive, ‘Mr. Big’ is excellent for fresh eating, shelling, canning, and everyday cooking.
