Lazy Housewife Pole Bean
Growing Lazy Housewife Pole Bean
‘Lazy Housewife’ is a vigorous heirloom pole bean prized for its versatility, stringless pods, and easy harvests. The climbing vines produce abundant crops of mid-green pods filled with distinctive shiny white seeds, and the beans can be enjoyed at several different stages for multiple uses from a single planting.
Sow ‘Lazy Housewife’ directly in the garden about 1 inch deep after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Space plants about 2 inches apart and grow in full sun. Vigorous vines typically reach 8 to 9 feet tall, so provide a trellis, fence, or other sturdy support.
Ready to harvest in about 78 days, begin picking the 4- to 5-inch pods while they are young and tender for snap beans. Allow the beans to develop further for fresh shell beans, or leave the pods on the vines until fully mature and dry for storage.
Tender, versatile, and dependable, ‘Lazy Housewife’ is excellent for fresh cooking, canning, freezing, shelling, and drying.
