Laurentian Rutabaga
Growing Laurentian Rutabaga
‘Laurentian’ is an open-pollinated rutabaga prized for its firm round roots, mild sweetness, and excellent keeping quality. Purple shoulders contrast with yellow lower portions, while the pale yellow flesh has a gentler flavor than ‘American Purple Top.’
Sow ‘Laurentian’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep and space plants about 6 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety thrives through cool growing conditions.
Ready to harvest in about 100 days, dig roots once they reach the desired size while they remain firm and tender.
Mild, sweet, and hearty, ‘Laurentian’ is excellent for roasting, mashing, soups, everyday cooking, and storage.
