Growing Information

Growing Golden Globe Heirloom Turnip

‘Golden Globe’ is an heirloom turnip dating to the mid-1800s and prized for its unusual coloring, sweet flavor, and excellent keeping quality. Perfectly round roots develop golden-amber skin surrounding matching amber flesh.

Sow ‘Golden Globe’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep, space plants 4 to 6 inches apart, and grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers.

Ready to harvest in about 55 days, pull roots once they reach the desired size while the flesh remains tender.

Sweet, smooth, and dependable, ‘Golden Globe’ is excellent for everyday cooking and storage.

    Golden globe turnips

I like these because they are not bothered by root maggots like the purple top ones are. They don’t get as big as purple tops but they are just as tasty.

    The best!

I always plant this variety as its so mild and tasty...if you like turnips! But turnips can be trusted to get you through a winter. Try layering them with potatoes and onions with a few mushrooms and herbs. Microwave till tender.

    Very good germination

I currently plant turnips almost all year long, and I have found the germination rate of this variety to be very good, especially when compared to the popular purple tops, which are hit or miss.
I will be switching to this variety exclusively moving forward.
