Growing Information

Growing Georgia Jet Sweet Potato Plants

‘Georgia Jet’ is an early-maturing sweet potato variety prized for its dependable performance, heavy yields, and suitability for shorter growing seasons. Smooth, deep red skin surrounds moist, bright orange flesh with a sweet, rich flavor and tender texture. Its ability to mature quickly makes it especially valuable for northern gardens without sacrificing productivity or eating quality.

Plant ‘Georgia Jet’ sweet potato slips after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has thoroughly warmed. Choose a location in full sun with loose, well-drained soil, and space plants about 12 to 18 inches apart. Set each slip deeply enough to cover the lower stem and roots while keeping the upper leaves above the soil line. Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while plants become established.

Ready to harvest in about 90 days, dig roots once they have reached a useful size and before cold weather arrives. Harvest carefully to avoid bruising or cutting the skin, then cure freshly dug sweet potatoes before eating or storing for the best flavor and keeping quality.

Sweet, tender, and versatile, ‘Georgia Jet’ is excellent for baking, casseroles, fries, roasting, and everyday cooking. Although especially well suited to shorter seasons, it also performs reliably in warmer climates and produces roots that cure and store well.

Shipping Notice: Sweet potato plants ship directly from our supplier on a seasonal schedule. Most orders begin shipping around mid-April, with shipping continuing through June 5th. Because timing can vary, we recommend planning for delivery no earlier than April 15th.

Solid sweet potato

I grew these and they produced vigorous vines, with multiple large sweet potatoes per plant. I currently have some curing and will let you know how it tastes! High yield for the space, will probably buy again.
