Frisee Endive
Growing Frisee Endive
‘Frisée’ is a distinctive leafy green prized for its finely curled leaves, crisp texture, and pleasantly mild bitterness. Also known as curly endive, it forms loose, shaggy rosettes with pale green to yellow centers that contrast beautifully with darker salad greens. Its balanced flavor adds depth without overwhelming other ingredients.
Start ‘Frisée’ indoors for transplanting about ⅛ inch deep. Space plants about 6 inches apart and grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers and performs especially well during cooler growing conditions.
Ready to harvest in about 58 days, pick leaves at your preferred size, choosing younger growth for the most tender texture and mildest flavor.
Crisp, lightly bitter, and refreshing, ‘Frisée’ is excellent for fresh eating, salads, garnishes, and mixed greens.
