County Fair Improved Hybrid Cucumber
Growing County Fair Improved Hybrid Cucumber
‘County Fair Improved’ is a productive hybrid cucumber prized for its sweet, never-bitter flavor, crunchy texture, and nearly seedless fruits. Blocky green cucumbers stay firm and crisp, making them equally useful for pickling or slicing. Nearly all of the flowers are female, and this parthenocarpic variety can set fruit without pollination. Strong resistance to bacterial wilt and several other common cucumber diseases adds to its dependable garden performance.
Start ‘County Fair Improved’ indoors or sow directly in the garden about ½ inch deep. Space plants about 12 inches apart and grow in full sun. Vines typically reach about 5 feet long and can be trellised to save space and make harvesting easier. For the most nearly seedless fruits, grow it away from other cucumber varieties.
Ready to harvest in about 52 days, begin picking the 6- to 8-inch fruits while they are still firm, crisp, and tender. Harvest regularly to encourage continued production and maintain the best texture and flavor.
Sweet, crunchy, and versatile, ‘County Fair Improved’ is excellent for fresh eating, slicing, salads, and pickling.
