Growing Bush Porto Rico Sweet Potato Plants

‘Bush Porto Rico’ is a compact, bush-type sweet potato variety prized for its space-saving growth habit and excellent baking quality. Smooth copper-colored skin surrounds moist, reddish-orange flesh with a rich, sweet flavor, making it a dependable choice for gardeners who want full-size harvests without long, sprawling vines.

Plant ‘Bush Porto Rico’ sweet potato slips after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has thoroughly warmed. Choose a location in full sun with loose, well-drained soil, and space plants about 12 to 18 inches apart. Its compact growth makes it especially well suited to containers, raised beds, and smaller gardens. Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while plants become established.

Ready to harvest in about 110 days, dig roots once they have reached a useful size and before cold weather arrives. Harvest carefully to avoid bruising or cutting the skin, then cure freshly dug sweet potatoes before eating or storing for the best flavor and keeping quality.

Moist, sweet, and flavorful, ‘Bush Porto Rico’ is especially well suited for baking and is also excellent for roasting, mashing, casseroles, and everyday cooking.

Shipping Notice: Sweet potato plants ship directly from our supplier on a seasonal schedule. Most orders begin shipping around mid-April, with shipping continuing through June 5th. Because timing can vary, we recommend planning for delivery no earlier than April 15th.

Healthy slips!

They are doing great so far. Don't wait until the last minute to order because they take a little time to get sent. My order arrived in perfect time to plant in June.
