Growing Information

Growing Jenny Lind Cantaloupe

‘Jenny Lind’ is a distinctive heirloom cantaloupe prized for its unusual turban-shaped fruits, juicy lime-green flesh, and delightfully sweet flavor. This historic variety produces vigorously on shorter vines, making it especially useful for gardeners who want heirloom flavor without exceptionally long vines.

Start ‘Jenny Lind’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ½ inch deep and space plants 4 to 5 feet apart. Grow in full sun. The vines can be trellised, and this heat-tolerant variety is also noted for good disease resistance.

Ready to harvest in about 78 days, begin checking fruits once they reach full size and develop their characteristic color, aroma, and sweetness.

Sweet, juicy, and unusual, ‘Jenny Lind’ is excellent for fresh eating, fruit salads, breakfast plates, and summer desserts.
