Cow Horn Heirloom Okra
Growing Cow Horn Heirloom Okra
‘Cow Horn’ is an heirloom okra prized for its distinctive curved pods, vigorous growth, and old-fashioned flavor. This historic variety produces large plants loaded with spineless, tender, light green pods whose unusual shape inspired the name.
Start ‘Cow Horn’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ½ to 1 inch deep and space plants 23 to 26 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This heat- and drought-tolerant variety performs especially well during warm summer weather.
Ready to harvest in about 60 days, pick pods regularly while they remain tender and at the size you prefer.
Tender, productive, and full flavored, ‘Cow Horn’ is especially well suited to gumbo, pickling, frying, soups, and traditional Southern cooking.
