Growing Big Beef Plus Hybrid Beefsteak Tomato

‘Big Beef Plus’ is a hybrid beefsteak tomato prized for its rich flavor, deep color, and extensive disease resistance. Uniform 7- to 8-ounce fruits have firm flesh, vibrant red interiors, and a balanced traditional tomato flavor with refreshing acidity.

Start ‘Big Beef Plus’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Indeterminate vines perform well in warm conditions and are resistant to several common tomato diseases.

Ready to harvest in about 75 days, pick fruits once they reach full size and develop their deep red mature color.

Big Beef tomato seeds

On the Big Beef tomato seeds that I ordered and planted this year, when the plants go up about 3 or 4 inches tall they all started looking like they had the spotted wilt virus. I know they are supposed to be resistant they had the spots and all the leaves were curling up. I pulled all the plants up and disposed of them. The virus won't be in the soil but it can come from the seed. I called and told the Co. about it but they didn't want to help an any way! I threw all the seeds I had away!

Best Year Ever With Big Beef

I've grown Big Beef for several years with mixed results. This year was different: nearly 100% germination, strong plants that showed no signs of disease all season and great yields of 12 oz perfect, blemish free, great tasting fruit. I'm not sure if it's the "plus", but I'm really happy with the results.
