Growing Information

Growing Super Sugar Snap Pea

‘Super Sugar Snap’ is an improved open-pollinated snap pea prized for its plump pods, heavy yields, and classic crisp sweetness. This productive strain adds improved powdery mildew resistance, excellent cold tolerance, and earlier maturity to the qualities gardeners love in traditional Sugar Snap peas.

Sow ‘Super Sugar Snap’ directly in the garden about 1 inch deep and space plants 12 to 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade. Vigorous vines require support and are noted for good disease resistance.

Ready to harvest in about 63 days, pick pods regularly while they are plump, crisp, and tender for the best flavor and continued production.

Sweet, crunchy, and productive, ‘Super Sugar Snap’ is excellent for fresh eating, snacking, salads, stir-fries, and freezing.

Sweet, crunchy, not stringy

Germination rates were very good. The peas are sweet, crunchy and don't get stringy even if you leave them on the plant for little longer than they should be. Overall a great crunchy snacker.

Just ok

Germination rate was around 80% but even with perfect weather and soil, plants are stunted at about 18” tall. No blossoms. I have had great success with peas in the past.
