Growing Provider Bush Bean

‘Provider’ Bush Bean is an early-producing variety known for reliable performance in challenging weather and strong disease resistance. Plants produce long, straight, tender green pods with a rich, buttery flavor and a concentrated pod set that makes harvesting easier.

Sow ‘Provider’ directly in the garden after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. The compact bush plants require no trellising and are adaptable to a range of growing conditions.

Harvest the pods while they are young, firm, and tender for the best texture and flavor. Much of the crop develops on the lower half of the plants, making the beans easy to spot and pick. Regular harvesting helps maintain pod quality and encourages continued production.

‘Provider’ offers excellent tolerance to powdery mildew along with strong resistance to other common bean diseases. The pods are especially well suited for fresh cooking, canning, and freezing.

Wrong bean seed in packages

I bought two packages of bush Bean Provider and planted in May. They came up thick and beautiful and I was thrilled.

And then the runners started appearing. The seeds are some type of a half runner variety and my garden is now a mess. I can't even get in the rows to pick them because I didn't provide any support for vines (of course) because they're not the kind of beans they're supposed to be!

I now have no beans for my freezer.

I plant brown seeded beans April 5 when the buzzards return and they give me a good crop. You can’t do that with the white seeded ones.
