Growing Green Magic Hybrid Broccoli
‘Green Magic’ is a compact hybrid broccoli prized for its vigorous growth, excellent heat tolerance, and uniform blue-green heads. Similar to the popular ‘Gypsy’ Hybrid Broccoli but with an even more compact growth habit, plants produce smooth, well-domed crowns with tightly packed, medium-sized beads and dependable garden performance.
Start ‘Green Magic’ indoors about ¼ inch deep for transplanting. Space plants about 18 inches apart and grow in full sun to partial shade. Plants typically reach about 2 feet tall and perform best in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. This variety also offers resistance to downy mildew.
Ready to harvest in about 60 days, cut the 4- to 7-inch main head once it is firm, well formed, and the beads are still tight. Its strong heat tolerance makes ‘Green Magic’ especially useful for summer and fall harvests when many broccoli varieties may struggle.
Buttery, crisp, and flavorful, ‘Green Magic’ is excellent for fresh eating, steaming, roasting, sautéing, and everyday cooking.
