Red Ace Hybrid Beet
Growing Red Ace Hybrid Beet
‘Red Ace’ Hybrid is an early-maturing Detroit-type beet prized for its vigorous growth, excellent uniformity, and strong disease resistance. Plants produce smooth, solid, deep red roots with a tender texture and rich flavor, topped by compact, glossy green foliage that is also edible.
Sow ‘Red Ace’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep during the cooler temperatures of spring or fall. Space plants about 3 inches apart and grow in full sun. Plants typically reach about 12 inches tall and perform best in loose, well-drained soil with consistent moisture as the roots develop.
Ready to harvest in about 53 days, begin pulling the 3- to 4-inch roots once they reach your preferred size while they are still smooth, firm, and tender. Young tops can also be harvested as beet greens, taking care to leave enough foliage for continued root growth.
Tender, flavorful, and versatile, ‘Red Ace’ is excellent for fresh eating, roasting, cooking, slicing, and preserving, while the edible greens can be enjoyed fresh or cooked.
