Golden Detroit Beet
Growing Golden Detroit Beet
‘Golden Detroit’ is a bright golden beet prized for its sweet, mild flavor, tender texture, and beautiful color. The rounded roots develop a rich golden interior with very little bleeding, making them especially attractive in fresh dishes and cooked preparations. The edible greens can also be harvested young for an additional garden-to-table crop.
Sow ‘Golden Detroit’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep during the cooler temperatures of spring or fall. Space plants 2 to 4 inches apart and grow in full sun. Plants typically reach 12 to 16 inches tall and perform best in loose, well-drained soil with consistent moisture as the roots develop.
Ready to harvest in about 55 days, begin pulling the roots once they reach your preferred size while they are still firm and tender. ‘Golden Detroit’ maintains a good texture even when allowed to grow larger, giving gardeners added flexibility at harvest time.
Sweet, mild, and versatile, ‘Golden Detroit’ is excellent for fresh eating, salads, roasting, cooking, and slicing.
