A bewildering leafy green also called chicory or escarole, but ‘Frisée’ does not have a cylindrically shaped leaf, being shaggy and bushy. But nothing’s strange about how it’s the perfect accent for any salad. Its slightly bitter flavor is milder than other endives and adds just the right balance to salads. Pale green, almost yellow leaves offset the dark green colors found in most lettuces.

    Hooray for Frisee'!

    Besides adding body and loft to your salads, frisee' imparts great flavor with a small bit of bitterness to counteract the acidity of tomatoes and salad dressings. And it is highly resistant to bolting! When summer lettuces start to fade out, frisee' continues to grow on strong and compliment romaines and sorrel.
