Armenian Green Heirloom Burpless Cucumber
Growing Armenian Green Heirloom Burpless Cucumber
‘Armenian Green’ is a distinctive Middle Eastern heirloom, also known as Serpent Cucumber or Snake Melon, prized for its exceptionally long fruits, crisp texture, and mild, sweet flavor. Although it looks and tastes like a cucumber, it is technically a type of melon. Pale green, ribbed fruits have crisp white flesh that is burpless and free of bitterness.
Start ‘Armenian Green’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly in the garden about ½ inch deep. Space plants about 12 inches apart and grow in full sun. Vigorous vines perform especially well in warm conditions. For straighter fruits, grow the vines on a trellis; when allowed to trail along the ground, the fruits naturally twist and curl.
Ready to harvest in about 70 days, begin picking fruits when they reach about 15 inches long for the best texture and flavor, although they can grow up to 24 inches.
Crisp, mild, and refreshing, ‘Armenian Green’ is excellent for fresh slicing, salads, sandwiches, and pickling.
