Growing Long-Day 3-Color Collection Onion Plants

The Long-Day 3-Color Collection brings together three dependable onion varieties—‘Patterson Hybrid,’ ‘Red Mountain Hybrid,’ and ‘Yellow Sweet Spanish’—for a colorful mix of yellow, red, and white bulbs. This bundle includes 3 bunches total, with 1 bunch of each variety, and offers 10% savings compared with purchasing them separately.

‘Patterson Hybrid’ is prized for its excellent storage potential and crisp ivory flesh, ‘Red Mountain Hybrid’ produces jumbo red bulbs with strong color and dependable keeping quality, and ‘Yellow Sweet Spanish’ offers large, mild, sweet bulbs with exceptional storage ability. Together, they provide a versatile combination for fresh use, cooking, and long-term storage.

Plant the onion transplants in full sun, setting them about 1 to 1½ inches deep and spacing plants 12 to 18 inches apart. Choose loose, well-drained soil and water thoroughly after planting to help the transplants establish. As long-day onions, these varieties perform best in northern growing regions where longer summer days support proper bulb development.

Harvest each variety once the bulbs have reached full size and the tops begin to naturally fall over. Allow the onions to cure thoroughly before storage. This collection is excellent for slicing, salads, grilling, roasting, sautéing, soups, stews, and everyday cooking.

Shipping Notice: This item ships directly from our supplier on a separate seasonal schedule. Most orders begin arriving in late January to early February, so we recommend planning accordingly if you need plants by a specific date.

Better than Expected

They're just about half-grown now, and they are thriving. Very few upon arrival were too small to plant, but the keepers are hale and hardy, growing straight and thick. Some of the finest I've had in 50+ years of home gardening. And the price was excellent. Call me contented customer!

One third did not survive

I'm not sure which of the non-red types did not survive, but I planted all of the onions and one "patch" is completely barren. I'm giving this a 3 rating for that reason.

Beautiful onions!

Third year of growing onions from your plants. We had to pick a couple yesterday. Keep up the great work we'll continue to order from you!
