Unreliable but delicious

I've grown at least one plant of Old German each summer for over ten years. I keep trying because every few years they produce the tastiest, sweetest slicing tomatoes. The first year, I started harvesting when they were yellow and they were good. But later I was surprised when the pink stripes appeared. The flavor and sweetness improved. But here in northern Wisconsin, they don't mature to their best each year.
