Growing Legend Lb Tomato

High yields

One of my favorites. Blight resistant is a bonus. I’ve had plants with 30 ripening at same time. Nice 4” average size. Flavor is a must for me and this variety is not disappointing sliced on a hamburger.

Excellent determinate

Our favorite, and best producer this year. We had this in two different locations, 2 raised bed plants with early sun and afternoon shade, with two in 10 gallon bags with late sun. The raised bed locations performed best, but the 2 in containers still produced well. Almost 2 months after the main harvest they are putting out as many tomatoes as our indeterminates.

Locally, some experienced gardeners gave up on tomatoes entirely this year. Daily rain from June 1-10 totaled 7-8 inches. Blight was a constant. The Legends needed pruning, but their resilience is what kept me from giving up. We had aphids early in the summer, and had to stay on top of that, but by the middle of July they became a non-issue. Other pests didn’t phase the Legends.

Flavor is excellent, real tomato taste. A couple of our heirlooms were a tad tastier, but they were more trouble and haven’t produce nearly as well.

Great slicer, good for canning. Needs to be boiled down more than paste types. VERY easy to work with. The fruit is round, smooth and resists cracking better than every other tomato we grew.

We will be planting more of these next year.

Context: Our location is central Arkansas, on a bit of cleared land in a forest. We have to find sun where we can. Zone 7b. We get a lot of rain early. And sometimes late.
