Chocolate Ghost Pepper Plants
Growing Chocolate Ghost Pepper Plants
‘Chocolate Ghost’ is a super-hot pepper variety created from a cross between the red Ghost Pepper, also known as Bhut Jolokia, and 7 Pot Douglah. This distinctive lineage produces intensely hot peppers with wrinkled skin that mature from green to a deep chocolate-brown and can be even hotter than a traditional Ghost Pepper.
Plant ‘Chocolate Ghost’ seedlings in full sun after all danger of frost has passed and temperatures have warmed. Set plants in rich, well-drained soil with enough space for good air circulation and healthy growth. Water consistently while plants establish, avoid overly wet soil, and provide regular feeding throughout the season to support flowering and fruit production.
The 2- to 6-inch seedlings arrive ready for transplanting and can develop into vigorous plants reaching up to about 4 feet tall. Mature pods typically reach 2 to 3 inches long and develop their characteristic dark brown color as they ripen. Wear gloves when harvesting, cutting, or processing these peppers, and avoid contact with eyes and skin.
Slightly sweet and smoky at first, ‘Chocolate Ghost’ develops an intense, slow-building heat that continues to grow after the initial flavor. Use extremely sparingly in hot sauces, chili, marinades, and other spicy dishes, or dehydrate the peppers for longer-term use.
Inventory Note: Plants are grown in waves, so additional inventory may become available throughout the season if a variety is temporarily sold out.
