Outredgeous Romaine Lettuce
Growing Outredgeous Romaine Lettuce
‘Outredgeous’ is a striking red romaine lettuce prized for its deep burgundy foliage, crisp texture, and sweet flavor. Ruffled plants offer excellent bolt resistance and dependable regrowth, making them equally useful for tender baby-leaf harvests or mature heads. This variety also made history as the first vegetable grown and eaten aboard the International Space Station.
Start ‘Outredgeous’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ⅛ inch deep, space plants 10 to 12 inches apart, and grow in full sun to partial shade. This cold-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers.
Ready to harvest in about 55 to 60 days, or in about 25 to 30 days for baby leaves. Pick younger leaves as needed for baby greens, or allow plants to form larger heads before cutting.
Crisp, sweet, and colorful, ‘Outredgeous’ is excellent for salads, sandwiches, wraps, baby-leaf mixes, and fresh eating.
