Growing Information

Growing Unicorn Hybrid Cherry Tomato

‘Unicorn’ is a hybrid cherry tomato prized for its bright red color, crack resistance, and full tomato flavor in a bite-sized fruit and one of our 2021 Free Seed varieties. Small, cocktail-style tomatoes weigh about ½ ounce each and offer the rich flavor of a larger tomato in an easy-to-snack size.

Start ‘Unicorn’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 12 to 14 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Indeterminate vines can reach about 6 feet tall, so provide support as plants grow. This variety is resistant to Fusarium Wilt Race 1, nematodes, and Tobacco Mosaic Virus.

Ready to harvest in about 76 days, pick fruits once they have developed their brilliant red color and reached full size. Continue harvesting regularly as the indeterminate vines produce throughout the season.

Rich, flavorful, and crack resistant, ‘Unicorn’ is especially well suited for fresh eating, snacking, and salads.

This is the second time I have grown the Unicorn, the first time being the free seeds I received as a gift. Even my friends remembered how delicious this hybrid was. Great grower until frost with loads of tomatoes, no cracking. I now prefer these over the Sungolds.

I have planted this tomato for about 3 years now and I like it a lot. They are very tasty and productive.

Great plants

I also got them as the freebie a few years back. Only thing keeping me from planting more is they are very small so takes a lot of time to pick vs a larger cherry like Gardeners Delite which is available from cheaper sources.

The best cherry tomatoes ever

Got the seeds with my order in Jan 2021 as Early Bird special. Really didn't expect much of the free gift but decided to give it a try. Gave a few plants to my friends. Boy oh boy! Tomatoes were good. They were excellent! Fruits were nice rounded, very sweet but kept a REAL tomato flavor. Long lasting vines, long lasting fruits! No cracking. Everyone who tried them were excited. Now our staple cherry tomato forever!
