Newton Basil
Growing Newton Basil
‘Newton’ is an open-pollinated basil prized for its fast growth, classic Genovese flavor, and strong Fusarium resistance. Large, bright green, crinkled leaves deliver traditional basil flavor without the pronounced licorice-like finish found in some varieties.
Start ‘Newton’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep and space plants about 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers.
Ready to begin harvesting in about 25 days, cut leaves or stems regularly once plants are established for continued fresh growth.
Fresh, productive, and versatile, ‘Newton’ is excellent for vegetable wraps, soups, pesto, fresh chopping, drying, and everyday cooking.
