Growing Information

Growing Unicron Hybrid Jalapeño Pepper

Due to high demand, this item is currently unavailable. We expect new inventory in June. In the meantime, consider San Joaquin Hybrid or Jalafuego Hybrid. Both are reliable alternatives with similar maturity, yield, and performance.

‘Unicron’ is a hybrid jalapeño pepper prized for its impressive size, thick walls, and dependable garden performance. Glossy fruits grow about 4 to 5 inches long—larger than a typical jalapeño—while delivering classic jalapeño flavor and moderate heat. With a Scoville range of about 4,000 to 5,000 units, ‘Unicron’ offers a familiar kick without overwhelming spice.

Start ‘Unicron’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 18 to 24 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Medium-tall plants reach about 24 to 36 inches and provide strong leaf cover. Fruits begin dark green and mature to a vibrant red, with good resistance to cracking, checking, and sunscald.

Ready to harvest in about 85 days, pick peppers green for classic jalapeño flavor or allow them to fully ripen red for a sweeter, more mature flavor.

Thick-walled, flavorful, and versatile, ‘Unicron’ is excellent for stuffing, grilling, roasting, pickling, and fresh use.

Biggest jalapeño out there

As advertised these a the biggest jalapeño out there, but a few notes. Slow to set fruit but heavy yielding by late season. Mild on heat but we did have a rainy summer here in Ohio so may have contributed to the mildness. I will grow again but will grow at least one or two normal jalapeño to ensure fruit to use early in the season, other than that I’m not sure how the plant breeders can hope to produce a bigger jalapeños pepper but until then this is the one I will plant for years to come

Not one of the Seeds germinated. But that’s OK. All the other stuff I bought was great.

None about the Pepper Seeds germinated, but I’ve gotten snack cucumbers, which were fabulous and the turnips and the collards were fabulous, but those peppers not one germinated in my little germination box

Big and fast!

The Ubicron was the last jalapeño that I planted and the first to produce. And they are huge! The heat level is perfect. Not too hot but spicier than most jalapeños that you buy in the supermarket. This one will definitely be in my garden every year!
