Growing Information

Growing Zenzei Hybrid Roma Tomato

‘Zenzei’ is an award-winning hybrid Roma tomato and 2023 All-America Selections Winner prized for early maturity, uniform fruits, and strong garden performance. Robust plum tomatoes weigh about 3 to 8 ounces and offer excellent interior quality with fewer issues from spots and blossom-end rot.

Start ‘Zenzei’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Compact, orderly plants are well suited to smaller gardens, heat tolerant, and noted for disease resistance.

Ready to harvest in about 75 days, pick fruits once they reach full size and mature color.

Meaty, dependable, and versatile, ‘Zenzei’ is excellent for sauces, salsa, roasting, canning, freezing, fresh eating, and everyday cooking.

Excellent choice for canning

Best paste tomato that we have grown since we grew Viva Italia (which seems to be no longer available). Zenzei produced copious amounts of fruit with little or no blossom end rot, while nearby San Marzanos were severely affected. Meaty fruit, good flavor, and disease resistance...perfect combo! Please continue to carry this variety!!

Great Roma style tomato

Grew them this year and they are great. Very large fruits and very productive with many more coming the rest of the season

Didn't germinate

I have always had great success with seeds from Seeds n'Such. Except for this packet. I seeded them properly, and even used a heat mat in my 50 degree garage. After 20 days, not one of them sprouted. I won't order this variety again.
