Growing Information

Growing Butterbaby Hybrid Mini Butternut Squash

‘Butterbaby Mini Butternut’ is a hybrid winter squash prized for its compact growth, single-serving fruits, and rich nutty flavor. Petite butternuts weigh about ½ to 1½ pounds and reach roughly 4 to 6 inches long, with smooth deep orange flesh and excellent eating quality.

Start ‘Butterbaby Mini Butternut’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about 1 inch deep, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Compact plants are well suited to containers and smaller gardens.

Ready to harvest in about 100 days, pick fruits once fully mature and allow them to cure for the best storage performance.

Sweet, smooth, and perfectly portioned, ‘Butterbaby Mini Butternut’ is excellent for soups, roasting, baking, purees, everyday cooking, and storage.

Ok. Grew. Small rewards

I planted the entire packet in two mounds 2 feet by 2 feet. I ended up with 22 plants that started. I have 12 plants that survived the summer heat. I have 6 baby butternuts in the garden which I am very excited about. I still have 7 weeks of growing time left so I hope to get some more! Seems like only 1 squash per plant grows.
