Growing Information

Growing Beefy Purple Tomato

‘Beefy Purple’ is a striking new addition to the Cream of the Crop™ series, created by the breeders of the popular 'Purple Zebra' tomato and prized for its unusual coloring, meaty texture, and balanced sweet-tangy flavor. Large 12- to 14-ounce fruits develop mahogany skin with green striping and a dramatic purple interior, while the flesh is juicy and nearly seedless.

Start ‘Beefy Purple’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Compact plants reach about 2 to 3 feet tall and are well suited to raised beds, large containers, and smaller gardens.

Ready to harvest in about 75 days, pick fruits once their characteristic mahogany-and-green coloring has fully developed.

Meaty, juicy, and colorful, ‘Beefy Purple’ is excellent for slicing, salads, sandwiches, and fresh eating.

Haven’t planted recently ordered 2026 seeds, instead planted few left over 2025 seeds two weeks ago. Germination was good and plant’s doing very well under grow lights. Will be potting up in near future.
