Growing Information

Growing Sangria Hybrid Watermelon

‘Sangria’ is a hybrid watermelon prized for its exceptionally high sugar content and rich eating quality. Long fruits develop forest-green rinds with jade-green stripes and contain beautiful deep red flesh with intense sweetness.

Sow ‘Sangria’ directly in the garden about ½ to 1 inch deep, space plants 18 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. For best sowing, orient each seed with the pointed end facing down. This variety is noted for excellent disease resistance. When sowing, place the pointed end of the seed down.

Ready to harvest in about 87 days, pick fruits once they are fully mature and the deep red flesh has reached peak sweetness.

Juicy, deeply colored, and intensely sweet, ‘Sangria’ is excellent for fresh eating.

better than expected.

I sowed the seed real late in the season, so all the melons on the vines didn't fully mature before the first killing frost, but I did manage to get several good-sized melons. the flavor was a little lacking, but I think that was due to the late season cool temperatures and fewer hours of sunlight. going to try them again this year, but much earlier.
