Georgia Rattlesnake Heirloom Watermelon
Growing Georgia Rattlesnake Heirloom Watermelon
‘Georgia Rattlesnake’ is a traditional Southern heirloom watermelon prized for its large fruits and distinctive striped rind. Oval melons display classic “rattlesnake” markings and commonly weigh 25 to 45 pounds, with occasional fruits growing considerably larger.
Sow ‘Georgia Rattlesnake’ directly in the garden about ½ to 1 inch deep, space plants 36 to 48 inches apart, and grow in full sun. For best sowing, orient each seed with the pointed end facing down. This heat-tolerant variety thrives through Southern summers. When sowing, place the pointed end of the seed down.
Ready to harvest in about 90 days, pick fruits once they are fully mature and the bright pink flesh has reached peak sweetness.
Tender, sweet, and flavorful, ‘Georgia Rattlesnake’ is excellent for fresh eating.
