Charleston Grey Heirloom Watermelon
Growing Charleston Grey Heirloom Watermelon
‘Charleston Grey’ is an heirloom watermelon prized for its excellent eating quality and dependable disease resistance. Oblong fruits develop distinctive greenish-gray rinds surrounding crisp, solid, deep red flesh with exceptional sweetness.
Sow ‘Charleston Grey’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep, space plants 18 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. For best sowing, orient each seed with the pointed end facing down. This variety is noted for good disease resistance. When sowing, place the pointed end of the seed down.
Ready to harvest in about 85 days, pick fruits once they are fully mature and have developed their characteristic rind and interior quality.
Crisp, firm, and super sweet, ‘Charleston Grey’ is excellent for fresh eating.
