Sweet Charlie Spring-Bearing Strawberry Plants

‘Sweet Charlie’ is an early spring-bearing strawberry variety prized for its exceptional sweetness, rich aroma, and firm texture. Developed by the University of Florida, it produces medium-to-large, bright red berries with high sugar content and excellent flavor.

Plant ‘Sweet Charlie’ strawberries in full sun, spacing plants 12 to 18 inches apart in rows 3 to 4 feet apart. Set each plant so the crown sits at soil level, taking care not to bury it. Choose rich, well-drained soil with a pH of about 5.8 to 6.5, keep the soil evenly moist—especially during flowering and fruiting—and apply mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.

As a spring-bearing variety, ‘Sweet Charlie’ produces one large crop in early summer, with fruit ripening earlier than many other strawberry varieties. Vigorous, disease-resistant plants perform well in both garden beds and containers and are best suited to USDA Zones 5–9.
