Arapaho Blackberry Plants
Growing Arapaho Blackberry Plants
‘Arapaho’ is a reliable thornless blackberry variety prized for its early ripening, firm berries, and balanced sweet flavor. Developed by the University of Arkansas, it produces glossy, medium-sized fruit on upright, self-supporting canes that are easy to manage and harvest.
Plant ‘Arapaho’ in full sun, spacing plants about 3 to 4 feet apart. Choose fertile, well-drained soil with a pH of about 6.0 to 6.8, and keep the soil evenly moist, especially during the first year while plants become established. Prune out old fruiting canes after harvest to encourage healthy new growth and continued production.
Best suited to USDA Zones 5–9, ‘Arapaho’ is naturally disease-resistant and performs well in both home gardens and small-scale plantings. Plants may produce a light crop the first year and typically reach fuller production by the second year. Once established, berries generally ripen about 35 to 45 days after bloom.
Firm, flavorful, and versatile, ‘Arapaho’ blackberries are excellent for fresh eating, baking, freezing, jams, preserves, and desserts. Thornless canes and an upright growth habit make this variety especially convenient for gardeners who want productive plants with easier maintenance.
