Moon & Stars Heirloom Watermelon
Growing Moon & Stars Heirloom Watermelon
‘Moon & Stars’ is a legendary heirloom watermelon prized for its distinctive rind and sweet rose-pink flesh. Dark green skin is speckled with pea-sized bright yellow “stars” and usually one larger yellow “moon,” creating one of the most recognizable watermelon varieties.
Start ‘Moon & Stars’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ½ to 1 inch deep, space plants 36 to 48 inches apart, and grow in full sun. For best sowing, orient each seed with the pointed end facing down. This heat-tolerant variety also offers good drought tolerance and disease resistance. When sowing, place the pointed end of the seed down.
Ready to harvest in about 90 days, pick fruits once they are fully mature and have developed their characteristic markings and sweet interior.
Sweet, flavorful, and distinctive, ‘Moon & Stars’ is excellent for fresh eating.
