A remarkable 300-year-old heirloom grown here by Native Americans before Europeans arrived! Fruits are large, deep-orange, globe-shaped, a little flattened so they don’t tip over. Flesh is more coarse than modern varieties, but flavor is excellent. Great for Jack-O-Lanterns and surprisingly good for pies!

grown for years

I don't make many pumpkin pies, but I grow pumpkins for the Grandkids, and my animals. I raise a couple pigs for the freezer, and my chickens, used to have goats also, they all like pumpkin. I started raising Connecticut Field over 20 years ago, not bulk, just packet or 2, and have never been disappointed. I admit my pumpkin growing is usually just sticking seeds in the ground near my manure pile, or even in my outside "winter" pig pen after they've been moved to the spring, summer, fall pasture. They've always grown and produced, (even smothering out weeds), with no extra care from me. Over the years, I've even gotten some that topped the 20 inch wide mark, and that's with no extra care or watering.
