Zebrune Shallot
Growing Zebrune Shallot
‘Zebrune’ is an heirloom banana-type shallot prized for its elegant elongated shape and delicate gourmet flavor. Pinkish-brown skins protect fine white flesh with notes of both onion and garlic, yet the flavor remains milder and sweeter than either.
Start ‘Zebrune’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants about 4 inches apart, and grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers.
Ready to harvest in about 100 days, lift shallots once the bulbs have reached the desired size and maturity.
Mild, sweet, and aromatic, ‘Zebrune’ is excellent for fresh eating, sautéing, sauces, everyday cooking, and storage.
