Southern Giant Curled Mustard Greens
Growing Southern Giant Curled Mustard Greens
‘Southern Giant Curled’ is a century-old heirloom mustard green prized for its deeply curled foliage, spicy flavor, and excellent cool-season performance. Large, bright green leaves develop attractive ruffled edges while plants offer strong cold tolerance and resistance to bolting.
Start ‘Southern Giant Curled’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ¼ to ½ inch deep and space plants 15 to 24 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers.
Ready to harvest in about 49 days, pick young leaves for a more tender texture or allow them to mature for a stronger mustard flavor.
Spicy, hearty, and flavorful, ‘Southern Giant Curled’ is excellent for fresh eating, sautĂ©ing, braising, soups, and traditional cooked greens.
