Bird House Heirloom Gourd
Growing Bird House Heirloom Gourd
‘Bird House’ is an heirloom gourd prized for its classic bottle-like shape, hard shell, and usefulness in dried crafts. Fruits develop a rounded lower section that tapers toward the stem and mature to a smooth tan finish.
Start ‘Bird House’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ½ inch deep and space plants 24 to 36 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety produces vigorous vines that need plenty of room to spread.
Ready to harvest in about 120 days, allow the gourds to mature fully and develop their characteristic hard shell before picking.
Durable, traditional, and decorative, ‘Bird House’ is an excellent choice for drying, birdhouse projects, crafts, and ornamental displays.
