Growing Lemon Heirloom Cucumber

‘Lemon’ is a distinctive heirloom cucumber prized for its bright lemon-yellow color, round shape, and sweet, mild flavor. The small fruits have a crisp texture with a classic cucumber taste and a subtle hint of nuttiness, while remaining pleasantly free of bitterness. Their unusual appearance makes them a standout in both the garden and the kitchen.

Start ‘Lemon’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly in the garden about ½ inch deep. Space plants about 12 inches apart and grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety performs well in warm growing conditions, though it tends to bear later than many other cucumbers.

Ready to harvest in about 65 days, begin picking the fruits while they are still small, firm, and tender for the best texture and flavor. Harvest regularly to encourage continued production and maintain peak quality.

Sweet, crisp, and unique, ‘Lemon’ is excellent for pickling, salads, fresh slicing, and snacking.

Love these!

These are my wife's favorite cuke, so I plant them every year. Very susceptible to mildew, though, so that, not the end of the growing season, is what limits their life in our yard. But microclimate is everything, so they may produce longer for you.

Lemon cucumber

If you have not tried these lemon cucumbers, you’re missing out! These are absolutely delicious. My family and I love them over the regular cucumbers but of course we grow both! They do best planted on a trellis, fence or cucumber cage. They do get very long. They grows well in New Mexico where it’s hot and dry and they produces abundance of cucumbers all year long until we hit our first freeze. Pic when they are still a light yellow and almost to the size of a tennis ball, or a little under that size.
